Seen from above, the dunes take on an almost human quality. Their gentle curves and layered contours suggest a quiet, reclining form—subtle and abstract—resting within the desert. This impression of stillness is what gives the photograph its title. Though constantly in motion over years and decades, the dunes appear momentarily at rest, suspended in a state of calm balance.
